About Tranzo

We are Tranzo
We are the scientific center for care and well-being, a Department of the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Tilburg University. Our mission is to connect science and practice. We do this by working in co-creation with practice on knowledge development and knowledge exchange, with the aim of promoting evidence-based working in health care and thereby improving quality of life, care, and well-being.

Evidence-based working: the three sources of knowledge
Evidence-based working is based on knowledge from three different sources: scientific knowledge, the professional expertise of the (healthcare) professional, and the knowledge and expertise of the citizen, patient, and/or client. Therefore, the interaction between researchers, professionals (such as healthcare providers and policy staff), and the demand side is essential to our way of working. We believe that by bringing together these three equal sources, we can achieve knowledge, skills, and products that are scientifically sound and of real use to practitioners!

Tranzo's way of working
Together with practitioners, Tranzo has established several Academic Collaborative Centers. These are sustainable partnerships between Tranzo—Tilburg University and various practice institutions, social organizations, and governments. Within an Academic Collaborative Center, work is done on innovation of the healthcare offer in the sectors involved. Together with practitioner institutions, social organizations, and governments, a research program is established. Within Academic Collaborative Centers, science practitioners, professionals who partly work in practice and partly conduct research, play a central role. Each science practitioner forms a bridge between science and practice.

At Tranzo, we work based on three main principles:

  • complete equality between the university and the collaborative partners in the field;

  • personal contacts at multiple levels within the organizations involved;

  • win-win: the involved organizations invest in the collaboration and reap the benefits.

What does it provide?
We have different collaborations based on the three sources of knowledge. In this annual report you can read about what these collaborations can lead to. Think of symposia, publications, research projects, PhDs defenses, inaugural addresses, and media statements. We are also fully committed to the development of practical products, interventions, and educational modules. In short, by pooling our knowledge, we collectively achieve great results.
