Master’s track Health, Wellbeing & Society

Together with the Department of Sociology, Tranzo has been offering the English-taught Health, Wellbeing & Society (HWS) Master’s track since 2019. Every academic year, a new batch of students start in September and January. From the start, we have been guiding an enthusiastic group of 15 to 20 students in the track every year, with positive evaluations.

In addition to the regular Master’s track, students can also choose the Extended Master’s program. About a third of the HWS graduates have followed the Extended Master’s. As part of this program, they carry out an additional six-month internship at a care or well-being organization, often one of Tranzo's partners. An internship offers students the opportunity to gain experience with the integration of knowledge from theory, policy, and practice as is also pursued in Tranzo's Academic Collaborative Centers.

Students conclude the Master's degree with a thesis. Topics students focus on when writing their theses are in the areas of socioeconomic health disparities, student mental health, client perspective in care for older adults, alcohol policy interventions, and accessibility in youth care, among others.

In the past year 2021-2022, 21 students started the Master's track HWS. Of these, four students chose the Extended Master’s. They carried out a research internship at an organization in the field of care and well-being, such as the Jeroen Bosch Hospital, the Dutch Health and Youth Care Inspectorate, and the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital. In total, the Master’s track already has 34 alumni.
