Tranzo Pearl | Praatplaat: Consequences COVID-19 measures

The restrictive measures during the coronavirus pandemic had a profound impact on many people in nursing homes. To discuss the impact, the Praatplaat was developed. The Praatplaat is a tool to engage in conversation together about life with and after corona. The Praatplaat is for everyone in the nursing home who wants to look back and learn from the coronavirus pandemic, i.e., whether you live there, work (or will work) there, or provide informal care. It helps to share personal experiences, discuss what went well and what could be better, and what wishes and needs there are in future, similar situations. The Praatplaat can be used for various purposes, such as introduction to the topic, reflection, or evaluation. There are 26 methods that can be used with the Praatplaat.

From 2020 to 2022, research was conducted with UNO-UMCG and KU Leuven on the impact of nursing home closures on residents, next of kin, and volunteers. Through an active meeting "the Mini Workplace" in July 2021, a co-creation with healthcare professionals, policy staff, and educators looked at how to translate the results from the research into practice. Based on the ideas conceived on this day, the concept for a picture puzzle (the Praatplaat (Discussion picture)) eventually emerged. To ensure that the product is useful for practice, the concept was further tested and developed in co-creation with the elderly, next of kin, volunteers, care professionals, and education.
