Older Adults

In the Academic Collaborative Center Care for Older Adults, person-centered care for older adults is central. Older adults, their next of kin, care professionals, and researchers work intensively and continuously together to contribute to more person-centered care. The starting point is scientific research into the lives of older adults living at home or in a nursing home. Results of scientific research are translated into care practice in various ways but always in co-creation. In this way, we develop knowledge that is scientifically and socially relevant and is used in care for older adults.

A lot happened within the Academic Collaborative Center again in 2022. From welcoming Avoord as a new partner to various publications. Moreover, the Collaborative Center released several practice products, such as the Tranzo pearls Autonomy Calendar and the Praatplaat.

New collaboration partner

Since January 1, 2022, Avoord has joined the Academic Collaborative Center Care for Older Adults. Avoord is a care for older adults organization in the area of Etten-Leur, Rijsbergen and Zundert. They have over 1,200 employees who support about 1,000 clients daily.

Technical innovation exchange meeting

On Februay 1, 2022, the Academic Collaborative Center Care for Older Adults organized an exchange meeting on technological innovation in care for older adults. Almost all partner care organizations of the Academic Collaborative Center Care for Older Adults were represented. Together, they discussed the Academic Collaborative Center Care for Older Adults' vision of technology and the research being conducted on this topic. They then exchanged three self-selected themes, namely: 1. making choices in care technology 2. conducting impact research 3. involving the shop floor in innovation.

Knowledge agenda for long-term care

In addition to Tranzo's Academic Collaborative Center Care for Older Adults, there are five other academic collaborative centers in the Netherlands. The six collaborative centers are collectively called SANO, or Samenwerkende Academische Netwerken Ouderenzorg (Collaborating Academic Networks for Care for Older Adults). Since late 2019, SANO members have been working together on the Long-Term Care for Older Adults knowledge agenda. This knowledge agenda describes challenges facing care for older adults today. The challenges are translated into 24 themes, such as autonomy, informal care, and ethical dilemmas. In July, SANO presented the knowledge agenda to Minister Conny Helder.

New endowed chair

On September 15, 2022, Robbert Gobbens was appointed endowed professor of professionalization of nursing and care in care for older adults. The endowed chair was created in a collaboration among Inholland University of Applied Sciences, Zonnehuisgroep Amstelland, and Tranzo, Tilburg University and is part of the Academic Collaborative Center Care for Older Adults. The aging population is causing an increase in the number of older adults who need care. Nurses and caregivers are the largest professional groups providing care to older adults, both at home and in the nursing home. Further professionalization of the profession of nurses and caregivers is of great importance to improve person-centered care for older adults, including strengthening their resilience. Robbert Gobbens's task of the chair is to understand and promote professionalization of nursing and care in care for older adults and its connection to the quality of care and quality of life of older adults. Components of professionalization are dedication, professional competence, learning ability, investigative ability, and collaborative ability. In addition to shaping person-centered care for older adults, the endowed chair is characterized by knowledge development through co-creation. The connection is always made between scientific research, elderly care, and education for nurses and caregivers. The chair not only provides scientific impact in the form of publications but also social impact in the form of products that can be used in care practice and education.
