Mental Health Care (Geestdrift)

At the Academic Collaborative Center Mental Health Care (Geestdrift), we aim to improve and optimize mental health care. The knowledge exchange focuses on improving the quality of care and the quality of life of people with mental disorders. Within the collaborative center (endowed) professors, researchers, and science practitioners work on central themes; including recovery and rehabilitation, geriatric psychiatry, somatic symptom disorders, personality disorders and autism, forensic mental health care, psychological trauma, antisocial behavior, and stigmatization.

The year of the Collaborative Center Mental Health Care consisted of several wonderful highlights. For example, they collaborated on the Symposium Older Adults Psychology: from Psychosomatics to Heroic Tragedy. The collaborative center organized the Mental Health Care Roadshow in June. By joining local referral cycles in this way, we reach the right interested parties. This time, we were the GGz WNB’s guests. It was again a great success and a great way to exchange knowledge! Arno van Dam was chair, and there were interesting presentations by Koen Grootens, Diana Roeg, and Peter van der Velden. The first 2023 Roadshow has already taken place at GGz Breburg. As the first Tranzo PhD of 2022, in February Dr. Cathelijn Tjaden successfully defended her Thesis 'Better Together. On Resource Groups for People with Severe Mental Illness'.

Some of the practice products

Conversation facilitator | This wonderful practice product was created from the ZonMw-funded project Recovering from and in the Triad. Margot Metz and Yolande Voskes are the contact persons for this project.

In the project Recovering from and in the Triad the needs and wishes of clients, relatives, and social workers regarding the cooperation in the triad have been researched by means of literature and interviews. From this, various points for improvement in triadic working emerged which have been incorporated into a toolbox.

The toolbox consists of a conversation facilitator, training materials focused on triadic work, training for triadic coaching, an overview of existing tools aimed at promoting dialogue and collaboration in the triad, and an animated film on the process of recovery in the triad.

The toolbox is currently being implemented in five pilot teams consisting of ART teams from GGz Breburg. Margot Metz and Yolande Voskes are following this as part of their research.

Fact sheet Mental Health | General outcomes at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic by Lars de Vroege and Anneloes van den Broek. Developed on the basis of a survey of mental health staff on mental health complaints during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fact sheet describes the results regarding perceived mental symptoms, the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on work-life balance, sick leave, and absenteeism. The results are also discussed in relation to the desire for a different work arrangement following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Contribution film series | From his PhD research on the use of experience expertise in forensic care and his work as an experience expert at GGz Westelijk Noord-Brabant, Leonard van der Kolk had the opportunity to give various workshops, guest lectures, and presentations in 2022. A wonderful practice product in this year is his contribution to a five-part film series by EFP. In each film, two experts by experience enter into a dialogue about bottlenecks and issues within their work in forensic psychiatry. The films are intended to inspire professionals to reflect on these themes in their own organizations. Watch(new window) episode 3 of the film in which Leonard van der Kolk starts a dialogue about the contribution of the expert by experience to the multidisciplinary team.
