Youth

The mission of the Academic Collaborative Center Youth is to conduct a long-term research program in the field of improving the quality of care for young people. It also works in co-creation with practice, the policy, education, and clients (parents/youth) on knowledge development and knowledge exchange.

The Academic Collaborative Center Youth deals with a wide variety of topics. It is mainly guided by questions issued by the partners.

An important issue we addressed with the partners is how to define an overarching theme that includes all the important themes. The overarching theme has become Improving the Quality of Youth Care.

In 2022, a new collaboration agreement was signed by the various collaborating partners. With this, we are again building a solid foundation for the next five years in which we can tackle joint issues in the field of Improving the Quality of Youth Care.

During the Tranzo Care Salon in September 2022, No Implementation without Co-Creation, Ilja Bongers discussed the fact that for successful innovation co-creation is also a requirement. In addition, the policy advisor on social domain (preventive youth policy) of the Eindhoven Municipality (one of the partners in the Collaborative Center) also gave a presentation. During this presentation, it was emphasized that when forming youth policy, it is incredibly important to address this together with youngsters and professionals.

The three endowed chairs

The participating organizations make two endowed chairs within Youth possible; Transformation for Youth held by Prof. Chijs van de Nieuwenhuizen and Care for Youth held by Prof. Jolanda Mathijssen. The endowed chair Transformation for Youth focuses on the perspective of youth, the development of knowledge on the effectiveness of professional action and on issues related to the providers of youth and child care, and the role of municipalities. Research into the effectiveness of interventions is explicitly included.

The endowed chair Care for Youth focuses mainly on child, parent, and caregiver factors that influence the outcomes of care and, in addition, the relationship between the child on the one hand and the parent and caregiver on the other. Prof. Jolanda Mathijssen was appointed endowed professor at this chair in September 2022. Until November 1, 2021, this chair was held by Prof. Ron Scholte.

Also attached to the Collaborative Center is the chair in Infant Mental Health, held by Prof. Hedwig van Bakel. This chair is funded by Youz.

Practice products highlighted

The BRAM (Beslissen, Reflecteren & Analyseren Met Ouders en Jeugdigen (Decide, Reflect & Analyze with Parents and Youth) tool had been developed before. But in 2022, a scientific article was published on it, advocating the importance of reflection by youth professionals for collaborative decision-making with youth and their parents.
